What’s involved in filling teeth?

Hello DentalIcon
1

Prepare the tooth and its surrounds

To ensure you’re completely comfortable we’ll first administer local anesthetic to the surrounding area of the tooth. Once the area is numbed, we’ll prepare the tooth - removing the existing damage, and then we’ll clean the tooth - removing any bacteria.
2

Filling the tooth with appropriate material

Depending on the extent and type of damage to the tooth, we’ll then fill the tooth with a composite resin, or a temporary material - such as glass-ionomer cement - if further work is required.
3

Bonding and buffing

The filling will then be bonded to the affected tooth, and polished. Your tooth cavity is now filled, sealed and ready to use again (after 30 minutes).

Your tOOTH FILLING questions, answered

What are dental fillings?

IconIcon
They are a dental treatment designed to address tooth cavities - often discovered during check-ups, or broken teeth (typically caused by an accident), using some form of ‘sealing’ material.

What are the different types of dental fillings?

IconIcon
The most common type of filling material is composite resin, and for more temporary fillings - glass-ionomer cement.

Amalgam fillings are silver, significantly less popular now and are fitted to the tooth (not stuck to the tooth, therefore requiring more tooth removal), but known for their longevity, whereas gold or porcelain fillings are more popular, known for their longevity, but are lengthier to prepare and fix.

We will advise what dental filling is best for your or your child’s presenting concern.

Why would someone get a temporary tooth filling?

IconIcon
Patients will receive a temporary tooth filling if there will be subsequent treatments. For example - if it’s a two-part treatment, if the tooth is undergoing a root-canal over multiple appointments, or if it is an emergency appointment (very common with children - in fact they’re our most frequent recipient of fillings!).

It’s important to note that dental fillings won’t last forever - however those designed for longevity will last for a long-time if looked after.

What is your tooth filling price?

IconIcon
Our tooth filling procedures start from $200, and we offer interest-free payment plans to ensure you get dental treatment when it’s needed.

Will I experience tooth sensitivity after filling it?

IconIcon
You may have some discomfort or sensitivity - but over the counter medication will address this effectively and swiftly. You should feel completely comfortable by the very next day.
